It helps to manage risks, reduce operating costs, increase attractiveness to tenants, engage employees, enhance reputation and increase long-term value for our investors and shareholders. It is also aligned with Manulife Financial Corporation’s (Manulife) commitment to excellence in business conduct and being a good corporate citizen.

Scope
This policy guides investment, development, asset and property management activities across our operations, including activities undertaken by third parties contracted by or in partnership with Manulife Real Estate and acting on our behalf.

Responsibilities
This policy applies to all Manulife Real Estate employees.
The Real Estate Environmental Officer is responsible for communicating the policy to all employees, business partners, contractors and third party managers, monitoring compliance and achieving results.
Oversight and review
This policy is reviewed every two years by the Real Estate Environmental Officer and revised as necessary.
GRESB Real Estate Assessments
GRESB (Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark) is a global benchmark for sustainability in regard to investment in real estate. Global Manulife Group owns real estate all around the world, and has been a participant in the GRESB Real Estate program since 2016. Our Japanese portfolio is included as part of the Manulife Group properties.
CASBEE Real Estate
CASBEE (Comprehensive Assessment System for Built Environment Efficiency) is an initiative led by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism to evaluate the environmental performance of buildings. Evaluation focuses directly on the environmental quality and performance of buildings, as well as on the environmental load of a building on its external environment, providing an integrated assessment of environmental efficiency.
